Good morning peeps!
It is just past October’s halfway mark and I have decided to start getting back in shape. I have been regularly walking in the past with the home workout every now and then. I have a Total Gym but struggle to commit to working out regularly at home.
Work for one hour. Burn for 36.
After some research, I found a place called Orangetheory Fitness.
According to the website, you burn about 500-1,000 calories in one workout and keep burning for up to 36 hours. If weight loss is your goal (which mine is), you can see an estimated 3-5 lb weight loss per week by going to 3-5 sessions per week. 3-5 sessions with proper nutritional planning, that is!
Who doesn’t want this? I was sold and filled out the form online get a free workout. Within a few hours, I got a call to schedule my free session. I was told to arrive 30 minutes before my session and to bring a water bottle & a towel.
Orangetheory: First Impression
The first thing I noticed about Orangetheory is that you see a lot of… well, orange! As soon as I walked in I was made to feel welcome and everybody there was friendly. I filled out some paperwork, answered and asked some questions and was given a tour of the workout room. All of that was done just in time to get ready for the workout. Their restrooms are niiice and are stocked with bobby pins, hair bands, hair dryer, cotton swabs, lotion, and deodorant. They also have a shower and lockers to put your belongings in while you workout as well as a fountain to refill your water bottle.
Once ready with my workout gear on and water bottle & towel in hand, I was given a chest strap to wear. The chest strap is what monitors your heart rate, calories burned, splat points, etc. Info from everyone’s monitor goes on the screens in the workout room for the session goers and the trainer to see the progress.
Orangetheory: Workout Session
Remember me saying that you see a lot of orange? Once you start working out you see even more orange due to that heart rate going up! Sometimes red as well! During the workout you are focusing on the green, orange and red zones. For the most part, people tend to be in the orange zone.
In my first session, I started on the floor then switched to the treadmills halfway through. The music selection was amazing and being able to see my heart rate and calories burned was motivating. Like okay, I feel like I’m dying but at least I’ve burned almost 500 calories! Haha.
In the end, I was so proud of myself. On my first workout I ended up burning 605 calories and getting 34 splat points. The workout was great, the way it gave me a boost in energy that took me through the rest of my long day was even greater.

The studio was neat and clean, the staff were friendly, the workout was amazing, the music was on point. As for the membership, I ended up choosing the premier and purchasing a chest strap. It seems the best option money-wise for my plan of attending 3 sessions per week. The strap pays for itself within 14 sessions VS having to shell out $5 for the life of however long I end up having a membership at Orangetheory Fitness.
Thank you for reading this far and forgive me for publishing this post a bit late. I will follow up with one about my first month at OTF. If you attend/attended Orangetheory Fitness, what is/was your experience like? Did you see the results you were expecting?
See you soon!!
